Sing Your Song

Aims:

To build confidence and enjoyment with using the voice.

To build awareness on the different ways we can use the voice.

To expand on, share and learn from own experience of singing.

Develop performance experience.

 

Learning outcomes:

These are the intended outcomes and may be revised in discussion with the class. Encourage learners to think about and identify their own individual outcomes. By the end of the course, learners should be able to:  

 

1: Use the voice with increased confidence and enjoyment.  

2: Engage with concepts and functions of Rhythm, interpretation/arrangement, technique and performance delivery when preparing a song.

3: Demonstrate awareness of own motivations, strengths, weaknesses, aspirations and path of personal development with the voice.

4: Sing a song in a group with harmony.

5: Sing a song individually in front of a live audience with amplification.

6: Show support for fellow singers and develop a sense of community with the voice.

 

Course content:

Introduction to vocal health and safety.

Concepts and exercises which develop vocal strength and good technique, including posture and breathing.

Pitch and listening skills, development exercises and games.

Introduction to interpretation/arrangement of a song and games and exercises.

Exploration of voice/sound games and exercises.

Group trust building exercises.

Discussion and experience sharing exercises, and personal reflection time.

Introduction to improvisation and song discovery.

Group singing exercises, including harmony singing.

Discussion on choosing and the research of 3 potential songs to prepare for performance.

Collaboration with other artists when arranging a song.

Performance skills exercises, including practise in pairs, small groups and dress rehearsal with stage and amplification.
